As part of the personnel agenda, Mr. Ruess introduced Christine Clarahan, who will be CPCSC’s new Director of Food Services. Current director Pam Maloney will retire this summer after 23 years of service with Crown Point Community Schools.

Policy Additions and Revisions - Second Reading and Adoption - previously presented at the February meeting, these are updates that keep our board policies in line with state statutes.

Wheeler Bid Package - renovations to Col. Wheeler Middle School include updates regarding general trades, flooring, and paint. These are part of the continuing capital improvement projects and are paid for through the construction fund.

Furniture Bids - casework for CPHS, Winfield, and MacArthur. These were not available through the co-op pricing typically utilized for previous furniture as part of the ongoing capital improvement projects.

Policy Additions and Revisions - First Reading. Includes compliance updates for board policies regarding small purchases and training/health precautions.

Director of Elementary Education - Kindergarten registration went well in February. If anyone has not registered, they can find info on our website. Elementary robotics teams have had a great season and the Eisenhower team is headed to state this weekend.

Director of Secondary Education - CPHS will host a Career Fair for students on April 26th in the fieldhouse. They are reaching out to businesses to set up booths and teach students about their professions. The annual St. Baldrick’s event last week raised more than $23,000. The annual Chambertown program will take place with both middle schools tomorrow where students learn about budgeting and careers.

Director of Exceptional Education - March is Disability Awareness Month. Front office staff training about serving students and families in the EE department took place last week. A few weeks ago the community ambassador group learned about the EE department and took building tours. March 21st is the annual Rock Your Socks day to acknowledge World Down Syndrome Day. We will have a Transition Fair at the high school on April 30th for families who are planning for life after high school. Unified Game Day will be on Wednesday, May 15 at CPHS.

Director of Grants/Assessments - Mr. Hardman gave an update on how Covid (ESSER) funds were spent over the last four years.

Assistant Superintendent - Last weekend the Alumni Association banquet was held and they inducted Hall of Fame members, which was a collection of great alumni. The annual Laude celebration will be this Wednesday at CPHS.

Chief Human Resources Officer - Thanks to all of our local businesses who participate in Chambertown. Thanks to Dana Torreano, our nurses and local doctors who just finished conducting our annual eye exams for first grade students.

Chief Financial Officer - Thank you to Pam Maloney, our Director of Food Services who is retiring at the end of this school year.

Director of Communications - Thank you to Anna Retzlaff, our district ELL Specialist, for her recent help providing information and resources to our English Language Learners and their families. We have translated a number of parent resources on the ELL page.

Superintendent of Schools - Safe travels to everyone as they prepare for Spring Break next week. Dr. Terrill asked the board to look at a date for the annual board retreat.

Mr. Vassar provided a legislative update for the board and the close of the legislative session.

Mr. Angel updated the board regarding meetings with the Town of Winfield and the fire territory being developed in Winfield Township/West Porter Township.

Mr. Vassar wanted to congratulate the students who improved their testing performance as mentioned by Mr. Ciochina at last month’s meeting.

Ms. Bazin recognized sports performances for gymnastics, boys basketball, dance, and the CP Baller team at CPHS.

Mr. Smith encouraged everyone to attend Unified Game Day later this year and thanked everyone for the work they put into the event.

Mr. Angel recognized students at CPHS. He did a broadcast for Dog Radio about March Madness. He was impressed with student decorum during the passing period with so many students in the building.
