College Application Seminar
Class dates: August 5th,6th, and 7th from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the LGI.
A link will be sent to all junior students and parents for registration through CPHS weekly communications and will be posted on our school site.
This seminar is intended to give incoming seniors extra support as they pursue the next step on the path to fulfilling their post-secondary goal. The seminar will assist students with the completion of college applications while offering guidance from our guidance and college and career counselors, as well as an English teacher. We will start with a review of different kinds of post-secondary opportunities (2-year & 4-year colleges/universities) and examine what admissions officers really look for when screening prospective students. Students who have not yet fulfilled college entrance examination score requirements on the ACT and/or SAT will work with a teacher and online programs to help identify and remediate skill deficiencies. As the seminar progresses, students will finalize their college lists and complete their applications. They will also practice interviewing skills for potential college interviews. Time will be devoted to the Common Application and any specific writing prompts on student applications. Instructors will assist seminar members through an interactive, student-centered format. Along with group instruction, students will receive individualized feedback via one-on-one conferencing with a guidance counselor to assist with the development of a college strategy for the 2025-2026 school year. Activities will include the creation of a calendar with deadlines, analysis of school selection and financial aid requirements.
Summer School Parent Message - February 2025
At the February school board meeting, the Board of School Trustees approved the 2025 summer school plan, which has a few changes for CPHS. We want to provide information about the reason for these changes.
As you may know, the Indiana Department of Education recently made adjustments to Indiana’s graduation requirements. These changes impacted the number and type of courses students need to graduate. After a careful review of our curriculum, we have adjusted our summer school offerings to ensure students can still earn all the credits they need while maintaining room for elective courses during the school year.
Under the new diploma requirements, fewer credits are needed in certain content areas, and students can now earn those credits during the school year. If we continued to offer these courses in the summer, we would have fewer students taking these courses during the school year, which could impact staffing needs. Our goal is to balance course availability with our commitment to retaining our talented and dedicated teachers.
2025 CPHS Summer School will include:
- Credit recovery for students who meet the requirements to take these courses. Courses will be available for English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and a limited number of electives that are required for graduation.
- Online Health for students graduating in 2026, 2027, or 2028
- Online Government for students graduating in 2026 or 2027
- Online Economics for students graduating in 2026 or 2027
For CPHS students, summer school registration will be April 7th-May 9th. A link will be posted on the CPHS Guidance Department website to register, along with more detailed information about course offerings.
Please rest assured that every student will continue to have the opportunity to earn all of the required credits for graduation. Our counselors and administrative team are available to assist families in planning course schedules that meet the new requirements and support each student’s academic goals.
Thank you for your understanding as we adapt to these state-level changes. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child’s counselor.
